The authors of 7 million works used to train AI are now part of the Anthropic case

In June, Judge Alsup of the Northern District of California ruled that AI training on books constituted fair use but that training on pirated works constituted infringement. The judge has now ruled that the case can move forward as a class action, with a trial scheduled for December to determine damages—which could be tremendous, given the case’s new class action status.
