Title: The Nurses: A Year of Secrets, Drama, and Miracles with the Heroes of the Hospital
Author: Alexandra Robbins
Publisher: Workman
Genre: Nonfiction
The Nurses, just released in paperback this spring, tells the story of a year in the life of four nurses. Their world is one of “controlled chaos,” filled with sex, drug abuse, and bullying—by peers, patients, bureaucrats, and doctors. Last month, the book enjoyed a spot on the New York Times combined print and ebook bestseller list, as well as its ebook nonfiction bestseller list.
When asked what contributed to her book landing on the NYT bestseller list, author Alexandra Robbins said: “Spearheaded by marketing director Jessica Wiener, Workman ran a very effective campaign timed to National Nurses Week, which included targeted ads using related articles I wrote, an ebook down-pricing campaign that helped drive paperback sales, and outreach to nurse groups to help spread the word. Jessica and my editor, Mary Ellen O’Neill, were the primary reasons I moved to Workman, because I had been so blown away by their work on my book Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities with Hachette.”
