Experts agree on a definition of predatory publishing

Leading scholars and publishers have come to a consensus on what defines predatory publishing. While their definition is meant for the academic or scholarly audience, the same definition can be readily applied to all categories of traditional publishing. Here it is (published in Nature): “Predatory journals and publishers are entities that prioritize self-interest at the expense of scholarship and are characterized by false or misleading information, deviation from best editorial and publication practices, a lack of transparency, and/or the use of aggressive and indiscriminate solicitation practices.” Read the announcement.
